Lewis Hamilton can assure F1 World Championship with strong performance at F1 Japan Grand Prix

10th ~ 12nd Oct 2008

Lewis Hamilton of McLaren-Mercedes extended his lead in the Formula One World Drivers Championship standings with a third-place podium finish during the 2008 Singapore F1 Grand Prix, and now has 84 points, leading by 7 points over Felipe Massa of Ferrari, who has 77 points.
Felipe Massa could’ve closed the gap with Lewis Hamilton at the Singapore F1 Grand Prix, starting at pole position. However, problems during a pit stop with the Ferrari fuel hose put him down the order to finish in 13th place, and out of the points.

The big story in the Singapore Grand Prix was the first-place finish of two-time F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso of Renault, who won his first race of the season after starting 15th on the grid. Nico Rosberg of Toyota Williams came in at 2nd place.

Lewis Hamilton will hope to secure his first ever F1 World Drivers Championship if he comes up with another podium finish in the upcoming F1 Japanese Grand Prix. With only 3 races remaining in the 2008 F1 season, Felipe Massa will need to get maximum points and hope that Lewis Hamilton fails to score any points if Felipe Massa intends to become the 2008 F1 World Champion.

Last year's F1 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen crashed his Ferrari with 4 laps to go during the F1 Singapore Grand Prix. Kimi Raikkonen has 57 points in the World Drivers Championship standings, and his hopes of defending his title are very bleak with 3 races remaining in the season.

Meanwhile, in the Constructors Standings, McLaren-Mercedes has 135 points and Ferrari has 134 points.

Last year's F1 Japan Grand Prix winner was Lewis Hamilton of McLaren-Mercedes, and will be one of the favorites to win it again this year.
